One possibility floated by Amy Lawrence and Adrian Clarke has been that, yes, although it's plain to see that the Arse's attack hasn't been firing, this may be because Arteta is consciously trying to conserve energy, tire opponents and use the strength of his bench at the 60-minute mark to finish teams off. Which, with the exception of Brighton — who changed the game state with their two worldies, let's not forget — seems to be working pretty well. It's a bit high risk and not the most enjoyable to watch for neutrals, and you hope that the fluency will come in time, but until it does: 18 points after 7 matches isn't… bad? If Arsenal win the title again this season with all the commentators and pundits continuing to slag off how they go about their business, my guess is that the players and staff will be able to sleep just fine.
I'm sorry that's just superficial analysis.
No we aren’t. Teams are just dropping even deeper
We should maybe think about appointing an 'attacking coach'.
Why are we doing think pieces when Arsenal struggled to breakdown a team but don't do analysis in the weekend when Arsenal played team off the park and were let down by end product. Can you see that the only negative examples you are bringing up is just from one game. I can't believe ACFC has bought into the sensationalism of the league. Did they struggle to break down Forest, yes! Did Forest defend well, Also yes. Please give me a break.
Analysis being so heavily focussed on the recent games is mental work. The left side was wayyy more fluid when Tzolis wasnt injured. Calafiori anyone? This video makes me wonder if ACFC is poorer this year with all the knee jerk clickbait analysis going on. Disappointed.
Calafiori needs to play with an actual winger like a Tzolis or a Madueke, not someone like Eze that also prefers to play more centrally. Eze isn’t fit to wear the shirt right now. He doesn't even seem to be showing basic intelligence! Why try to play passes to an overlapping full back that likes to invert? He's barely showing basic skill. For a £60M + signing that's been a part of the Arsenal set up for over a year now, it's time he starts showing improvements before he's shown the door. I'd rather have Dowman playing on the left over Eze, and it's not even close.
Archie Colbert Football channel is my fave
Look at the still of Noni about to score there are 9 Forrest players inside the 18yd box this is what Arsenal face against so many opposition teams, the reason we are trying intricate flicks and passes is because we are playing in no space. It does seem to me we are playing most of the games without really exerting too much energy but playing in bursts when needed and maybe this is because we were so fatigued at the end of last season
Content must go on contenting.
Forced criticism “negatives” 😂😂
Rubbish.
Last season was impotent most weeks. Bar sunnyday homeball vs Cov and Chelsea, this season has been the same. This play has been going on for 12 months. The only difference, last season it was setpieces (25 in the league, eight 1-goal wins). This season it's Cala Chaos and Bruno Magic, plus a fortunate deflection vs Notts. Is it sustainable? Probably not.
Rice being deepest man can create a funk. Teams have been triggering on his movement to drop off in the backline. They wait… he drops… they step. Once he gets the ball though, they back off. Let him have it, he'll malfunction and wave his arms, then roll it backwards. In doing all that, he vacates the cental area. MLS will plug the gap, Ode will drop… Now you have seven men in your own half, Kai dropping to support. How do you advance? It's impossible. The base positions are off, creating rigidity and inhibiting movement. It 'worked' last season because we never conceded (due to having 7 behind the ball most of the time). We could camp, defend, hoof, flop, then load up the Beckham tribute act. It's the same ball as now.
We still try that but refs aren't buying the flopping, teams are also defending the long balls better. The only exception is when Arteta yanks MLS off in the 60th minute and hurls Bruno on. He gets so HIGH. Rice goes with in those scenarios, moving into the left 8 areas where he's genuinely elite. That shift in base position drags the fullbacks up and the CBs advance into QB roles. You've got overloads and movement. Ode has now got Super Saiyan. Saka starts waking up. They did that for 12 mins vs Leeds, Rice nearly had a goal and 3 assists. He was class.
But it was a disaster starting with Bruno-Rice vs Brighton and should have been punished just as bad vs Notts. Why? Because Rice didn't go with Bruno. I dunno if it's energy or conservative instructions. But you have one CM dropping off and the other advancing north. You have moments with a vacant midfield. The guys scramble to reshape after losing possession, but you can end up in a funky 5-5-0 formation with horizontal tears between defense and attack, Kai-Ode filling the central midfield while Bruno lumbers back. Brighton feasted on those gaps. Notts should have done.
This is how Liverpool started last season before capsizing
It's been a problem for a while that the excessive reliance on the right side leaves Arsenal predictable (and over-reliant on Saka being in prime form; and tending to unfairly marginalise all the players who favour the other half of the pitch). There's also the longstanding issue that they don't have an established top-class goalscorer through the middle for them; Gyokeres hasn't quite made the grade, but neither has Havertz; they both offer a lot in their build-up play, but they're not 20-goals-a-season forwards, and a top side really needs one of those. And then there's the centre of midfield – what on earth is going on there? They spent ages trying to land Zubimendi, and he was crucial for them last season; now, suddenly he's sidelined, for no stated reason?? Lewis-Skelly looks to be emerging as a decent understudy, but still young and inexperienced. But quite often, Arteta's playing neither of them; and Rice and Guimaraes are just not holding players. Whenever they're the pivot pair, Arsenal are likely to struggle in a game.
This could be a short.
They didn't have enough attackers last year and then decided to sell two and replaced them with one 30m replacement. But spunk 100+ million on defensive players.
Of course they have got worse, prem football is boring with two teams engineering risk out of football.
Man i love saka, but we are paying him like he s prime Salah, and he juat isn t … in general our attackers are mid at best
What I’ve noticed is Arsenal always play down the wing… which is bad because the wingers aren’t stand outs.
They compound this by making the wingers cross from their weak foot, and they cross… a lot.
That is made worse by the fact that both center forwards can’t score headers at all.
The most dangerous position Arsenal got in attacking wise against Forest was an overlap from timber that was cut back into the box which rice skied. If that had been an odegaard or … idk who else tbh… then it’d probably a goal.
I think the solution is to play more centrally and when they do go wide move it a lot faster. Commit to that attack.
What if plan B is actually plan A?
I think this game shows how much Tzolis were missed..
damn i gotta agree withy you. i also think we lack a leadership presence in the front. at the back we've got our stalwart gabriel, in midfield we have rice, ode but in the front we lack a dominant presence to provide impetus, drive and take on responsibility.
V.C.C tattoo, "our plan A"… I see you Archie… coyg
Last season when we pinned opposition down and used set piece to break a deadlock, we were called "boring". Now that we are back to playing intricate passes with rotation and combination, suddenly we are "worse". People often forget in 22/23 and 23/24 when we finished 2nd, we played beautiful football and that didn't get us the title. Now that hurdle has been overcome, we are back to playing Arteta attacking football and people still complain.
Can Arsenal get even more boring? Watching their analysis makes me want to fall asleep
Hey Max Dowman, stop making videos and get training so that we're better!
You aren’t just a pretty face archie
The fact we had tough away fixtures and got good results is a great things..
Obviously its early seasons, and there few tactical tweaks that will takes time to work eventually..
So, I am chill.
getting worse for sure! where are the corner kicks goals!
Arsenal's problem right not is lack of attacking quality. It has been for a few seasons now and instead of buying attackers, they're buying CBs
Then just play plan C. Ditch plan A, clearly not working
arsenal is the same, everyone else is just better. they were just as boring last season, but everyone else sucked
media coming up with narratives of how adjusting tactically and having game impacting subs is bad
"hmmm lets call it Plan A Sucks"
and before this they complained arteta isnt flexible tactically.
i guess the youtube video is due and they need to talk about a big team for views lol
Another thing, that Arsenal lacks at times is either quick passing towards the central areas and just taking shots outside the box or quick passes out wide and just quickly crossing in dangerous areas how Liverpool under Klopp used to do. Having a variety of ways to attack will open up more spaces for them.
I think 2 parts can be true. Arsenal aren’t a shootout team that will cede control, and opposition are also getting so much better in how they disrupt control.
I believe any team can be a disrupter, but not every team can control a game against this pressure.
I will only worry when we start to lack control of games, as that’s our foundation, and the crux of our uninspiring attack.
Or perhaps teams are always going to be extra defensive against the champions.
As good as Calafiori is, when he inverts he doesn't provide Eze or Noni that line ball or takes the full back away to provide some space. Note for the Forest goal, Cala was on the edge of box, more inside than Rice. Whilst it's good for build up play and he can be played through like against City in the charity shield, the wingers need help and only really works 1 in 5 when they're 1 vs 1. Not saying we need to change, just it needs to vary.
Should we be talking more about Brighton?
god this conversation is so boring. "we're winning games but we're so bad". WHO CARES! They're winning when they're not playing at their best and have 2 major injuries. The law of averages says things even out. THEY ALWAYS DO!
Dropped points away to Villa, Sunderland, and Forest last season but have won all three without conceding. They’re +4 relative to the same fixtures last season. If they’re “worse” in some way it’s not the way that matters.
